weather-week-ending-sept-23The weather was unusually hot for the third week in September, but the high temperature was still eight degrees lower than the record.

High temperature for the week ending Sept. 23 was 94 degrees on Wednesday. According to John Beltz, former volunteer weather observer, the high temperature for Jefferson in September is 102 degrees on Sept. 5, 1913.

Low temperature was 56 degrees, according to KCCI’s SchoolNet 8.

Jefferson received just .36 inch of rain, much less than other places in Iowa. While other cities are spending the weekend preparing for near record flooding, the Raccoon River in Jefferson was only at 7.74 feet Saturday morning. Flood stage here is 19 feet.
